Automated Systems / Postal Industries
United States Postal Service (USPS)
GP has performed a variety of equipment and management systems deployments for the United States Postal Service (USPS).
System Maintenance and Operations Manual Development
GP has developed system level and operations manuals for both domestic and overseas equipment and system deployments. During this effort GP was in constant contact with the engineering teams and provided feedback on equipment operation and conditions from the field. The development of the maintenance and operations manuals included the following services:
- Development of software procedures for designed graphical user interface
- Development of operations procedures to support day-to day tasks
- Development of specific safety procedures
- Validation of subcontractor provided manuals for all hardware components
- Validation of technical documentation with conditions in the field
Equipment and System Training and Training Development
Operations Training
GP developed operations training that includes both theory of operation and practical hands on applications.
Maintenance Training
GP develops and delivers multiple maintenance training courses for various USPS systems. These courses cover a wide range of topics including specific maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, theory of operation and maintenance management issues.
GP acts as both the advocate for maintenance training in the field, and as a technical consultant in the field. GP staff routinely reports on equipment status, installation discrepancies and subcontractor related equipment issues. GP's efforts in the field have included constant interface and consultation with installation project managers, field engineers, field technicians, and the USPS maintenance management at each individual deployment site.
Training Consultation
GP has been part of day-to-day discussions with USPS. These services have primarily focused on coordination of schedule, curriculum development, and strategies for successful completion of the requirements of the USPS statement of work.
- Update of course curriculum consistent with the changing needs of USPS
- Consultation on required safety related equipment changes
- Field support for USPS maintenance procedure validation
- Field support for equipment subcontractors
- Interface with equipment subcontractors on specific technical issues
- Consultation with project managers and field engineers on specific installation challenges
System Transition to Operations Support
GP supports all aspects of transitioning newly installed systems into operations processes. This effort includes consultation, development of acceptance test criteria, strategies for meeting those criteria and exit strategy. GP staff work in the field, side by side, with engineers and integration team members from initial deployment thorough acceptance. GP has been, and continues to be, an integral part of the following efforts:
- On the job training of USPS managers and supervisors
- On the job training of USPS craft employees
- Analysis of system performance
- Troubleshooting of the system
- Development of best practices for operations
- Development of exit reports and presentations
- Consultation with local USPS management
Technical Data Package Development
GP has developed a technical data package for approximately 1700 engineering/assembly drawings and associated lists from existing hard copies using AutoCAD 13 as requested by the USPS.
The technical data package included the following:
- Drawing information
- Part assembly information
- Qualified parts lists
- Printed Circuit Board (PCB) artwork
- Hard copy AutoCAD drawings
- Electronic versions of the drawings on CD-ROM
The technical data package development effort included configuration management of the drawing database and associated engineering change requests (ECRs) and submittal of the drawing flat files. The technical data package drawing package was developed under ANSI Y14.M and USPS-STD-10 with several types of drawing formats including the following:
- Specifications
- Assembly/subassembly drawings
- Parts lists
- Detailed drawings (primarily 2-D)
- Wire tables
- Circuit board drawings
GP also incorporated initial review comments and redlines as well as changes in response to approximately 150 ECRs.
