Advanced Electronics Manufacturer
Since 1987, GP has been a partner in providing workforce development and training services for an advanced electronics manufacturer. GP has assisted in a wide variety of projects, including team building, quality, skilled trades maintenance technician training, and production-specific training programs. GP has assisted the manufacturer in the launch of a new facility, new product line integration, quality program implementation, and even QS-9000 registration.
Specifically, GP has:
- Developed a company-specific quality control production system including quality process sheets (QPS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), on-the-job training (OJT), safety analyses, and visual factory job aids.
- Performed a job and task analysis and developed training materials for equipment technicians, including training on electrical and mechanical maintenance fundamentals for personnel who maintain circuit board assembly equipment (surface mount technology, wire bonding, screen printers, etc.).
- Performed job and task analyses, program design, material development, on-the-job training, and qualification process development for entire manufacturing operations. Key manufacturing equipment and processes included:
- Screen printing operations
- Pick and place equipment
- Solder baths and manual soldering operations
- Glue dot applicators
- Through-hole placement equipment
- Sil-gel equipment operations
- Laser trim / laser scribe operations
- Central processing unit (CPU) placement equipment
- Surface mounted device (SMD) placement equipment
- Visual orientation and quality control equipment
- Plastics forming equipment
- Developed and conducted hundreds of site-specific courses. Courses included Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), Line-Specific Introductions, PWB and SMD Repair, Advanced Computer Applications, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Robotics, and many others.
- Facilitated a team-building process and supported a learning center via on-site staff augmentation efforts. Both instructional and administrative support were designed as turnkey services.
- Developed and integrated an SPC software program designed to assist hourly employees with the introduction of SPC to line operations. The software allowed production personnel to enter operations data to generate SPC results as well as indicate potential problem areas.
- Designed, developed, and implemented a variety of PLC courses. Each course was customized to match what the production area was using. The courses were highly interactive, including up to 50% hands-on time. Topics ranged from basic introduction to engineering and high-end diagnostics and troubleshooting exercises.
- Placed client-selected instructors to complete the classroom instruction of the "Customer Delight" training. The instructors completed the rollout of the course materials to every person assigned to the facility—over 2,000 personnel.
