Domestic Preparedness Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP)

The GP Difference in the Domestic Preparedness Technical Assistance Program

GP's experienced instructors and technicians go beyond basic operation of your detection, protection, and response equipment.

This is more than just a job for us; it's our mission.

The Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP) is a high-impact, mobile technical assistance program serving America's emergency responders and first receivers. GP's DPETAP teams travel to your location to deliver hands-on training to help you better choose, operate, and maintain your chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) detection and response equipment. DPETAP supports 4 National Preparedness Goals and 20 Target Capabilities.

The Department of Justice and later the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chose GP as the on-staff provider of more than 40 technical assistance courses and 8 practical exercises in the DPETAP. Jurisdictions, states, Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) (424KB PDF) entities, ports, mass transit, and rail entities can use DHS or Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) grant funds to obtain technical assistance training and services through the DPETAP Supplementary Delivery Program (DSDP).

Our Unique Approach to DPETAP

In addition to training, we can provide assessments of your equipment's capabilities and limitations, strategies for using and combining your equipment's capabilities, recommendations for improvement, and practical exercises for skills assurance. All of our instructors and technicians are DHS-certified. GP instructors have backgrounds in military, fire service, law enforcement, emergency medical service, and commercial HAZMAT disciplines.

Our approach highlights the operational theory, capabilities, limitations, maintenance, and calibration of your equipment to help you protect your responders and community. We go further to set ourselves apart in the industry by delivering the following:

  • Unrivaled expertise—Our instructors and technicians don't just teach and preach homeland security, they've lived it on the front lines, in military, civilian, and governmental emergency response and management disciplines.
  • Customized solutions—Every DPETAP technical assistance visit is a custom delivery of training and services to maximize your responders' skills and confidence levels with their equipment. Technical assistance training and services are delivered at your location, on your schedule, and on the equipment you request. DPETAP mobile assistance teams arrive at your location with all equipment necessary to deliver the assistance you need. Training equipment is provided by the team—your equipment remains in service and ready to respond. Your responders remain in your community, available if needed.
  • Depth of understanding—We work closely with response equipment manufacturers to bring you the latest unbiased information on your response equipment. Best practices and lessons learned from other responders are incorporated into the course materials and delivery to ensure effective use of your response equipment by your personnel.

With GP, each visit is customized to your unique needs and delivered with the professionalism and expertise you'd expect from an organization that has served tens of thousands of responders as the DHS equipment technical assistance training provider and technical assistance hotline operator since 1999.
