Blue Coral / Slick 50 Project
Blue Coral / Slick 50 (www.bluecoral.com), a Pennzoil-Quaker State Company, selected GP to provide engineering services for a new Automotive Products Blending Facility that was originally slated to replace their Cleveland facility with a state-of-the-art blending and packaging facility located in Baltimore, Maryland.
GP supported the conceptual design of the facility and carried out detailed process design; facility layout; mixing building design, including integration with existing structures; bulk chemicals tank farm design; equipment and instrumentation specification; piping system design; and coordination of site/civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering. Project requirements included provision for proper explosion venting and compliance with all applicable building codes. This effort involved extensive facility optimization to meet aggressive cost and performance goals. GP also provided Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) facilitation services to the project.
Relocation of the project to Maple Heights, Ohio, meant that significant changes to the facility layout and building configuration were necessary. GP provided process engineering, facility layout, piping design, utility and process equipment specifications, and procurement assistance in extensively revising the original design to suit new site conditions and meet project financial constraints.
The GP team developed the operating and maintenance procedures, performed the job and task analysis, and developed the training program for the mixing facility staff. Funding for the training program was supported by a State of Ohio matching grant to Blue Coral / Slick 50.
